Otro ejemplo me da tu providencia
de otra dicha, Señor, desvanecida,
otro consuelo a mi modesta vida,
otro motivo para mi paciencia.
El que asciende feliz con la opulencia,
y del peso que lleva se le olvida,
recele más violenta la caída,
cuando se acerque más a la eminencia.
Fue polvo en un instante el suntuoso
alcázar que esperanzas ofrecía
de osada presunción a la codicia:
Y mostróse el estrago milagroso,
porque en la ostentación no parecía
edificio labrado a la malicia.
