Vuestro Templo, Señor, arde violento,
al laurel de Tomás se han atrevido
centellas materiales y encendido
lo que del rayo se juzgaba exento.

Será que con castigo tan sangriento,
de los delitos nuestros merecido,
misterioso querréis, que hayan tenido
en la sinceridad el escarmiento.

Que inicuo fuera en el juicio humano,
librar al delincuente la sentencia,
y hacer del inculpable la justicia.

Sólo en vuestro decreto soberano
es justo, que padezca la inocencia,
para que se redima la malicia.
