- LI - A la muerte de Lucrecia, origen de la libertad romana

Roto en Lucrecia sino declarado
del fuero conyugal el nudo estrecho,
el duelo de su parte satisfecho,
el adúltero infiel amenazado.
El brazo del honor acelerado,
para mostrar el inocente pecho,
el corazón en lágrimas deshecho
aun primero sangriento, que rasgado.
Al sacrificio casto de su vida,
la Matrona constante ofreció ufana,
golpe tan fuerte, que excedió al intento.
Y aquel acero, que sobró en la herida,
cortando el yugo a la cerviz Romana,
esculpió en las edades escarmiento.
