- XXXIII - A la muerte de una dama
¡Ten, no la pises, ten!: de losa fría,
de piedra, ¡oh caminante!, más que helada,
es centella en ardor, ya tan mudada
que es cera la que mármol ser solía.
Cenizas guarda aquí, que en solo un día
Amor robó, y en hora desdichada,
diestra quebró, cuanto sangrienta, airada,
lazo que olvido y tiempo no temía.
Envidiosa la Muerte y la Fortuna,
con uno y otro golpe procuraron
a su firmeza hallar flaqueza alguna.
Mas la Fortuna y Muerte se engañaron
si está donde no puede la Fortuna,
ni la Muerte y sus alas alcanzaron.
