Alto estoy, tanto que me niega el velo
pardo el suelo a mis ojos, por airado,
en mirar que por nubes le he trocado,
o porque niega, en fin, humano cielo.

Águila en vista fui, águila en vuelo,
mas como ajena salas he volado,
temo me falten: miro que han parado
en ejemplos, mis émulos, del suelo.

Desprecio, altivos, dieron a su suerte,
al tiempo, a la fortuna: si han caído,
sus manos dieron puerta al mal suyo.

Conozco mi verdad, merezco acierte.
¡Desdicha, si me humillas, habrá sido,
no por mi mal o culpa: por ser tuyo!
