Brota diluvios la soberbia fuente,
más piadosos que el cielo para Egipto,
cuando el piélago en ondas infinito,
aun su misma ribera no lo siente.
Multiplican mis ojos tu corriente,
contra la fuerza del celeste rito,
pues cuando abrasa el Sol todo el distrito,
de sus márgenes pasa la creciente.
Hiriendo el Sol las encumbradas sierras,
que al Nilo se derraman en tributo,
vuelven a ser fructíferas las tierras.
En mí, causa mi sol el mismo efecto;
mas ¡ay, que son lágrimas sin fruto,
pues con ser agua, queman en secreto!
