Teme el fuego abreviar últimos plazos
de vida al mundo, y sepultar las gentes,
teme el aire anegarse con torrentes,
o verse preso con fogosos lazos.
Los mares temen cielos a pedazos,
o muerte será en círculos ardientes,
las tierras temen piélagos pendientes,
ondas de vientos, fulminantes brazos.
Sólo no teme el Bárbaro que opone
sombra a luz, flecha a rayo, tierra a Cielo,
y el Católico a miedos le convida.
Perdona el cielo a aquél, porque dispone
su enmienda, y a éste, en premio de su celo,
le pasa de mortal a inmortal vida.
