- II - Soneto

Pues que se muere con haber nacido,
siendo el ser tan a riesgo de la vida,
que el minuto menor es homicida,
de que el mejor cristal queda sentido,
mira que el golpe, en polvo ya escondido,
y la luz con el polvo tan unida,
se halla más sepultada que encendida,
pues lo más de ella muere, habiendo sido.
Si es tu defensa nada ¡oh vidrio leve!
tan de acaso tu luz para apagada,
que no admite esperanza por lo breve;
si la más cierta vida es la pasada,
de la presente, ¿quién fiar se atreve?
¿Quién a más, si aun gozándola, es soñada?
