- I - A la rosa

Esta a quien ya se le atrevió el arado,
con púrpura fragante adornó el viento,
y negando en la pompa su elemento,
bien que caduca luz fue sol de prado.
Tuviéronla los ojos por cuidado,
siendo su triunfo breve pensamiento,
¿quién sino el hierro fuera tan violento,
de la ignorancia rústica guiado?
Aun no gozó de vida aquel instante
que se permite a las plebeyas flores,
porque llegó al ocaso en el Oriente.
¡Oh tú, cuánto más rosa y más triunfante
teme: que las bellezas son colores,
y fácil de morir todo accidente!
