- VIII - Considerando un sepulcro y los que están en él

No te mires a ti que te acompaña
si te das a tus ojos, el engaño,
mírate en el más propio o más extraño
que teatro admiró, venció campaña;
no como allá en el mundo aquí se engaña,
que es centro esta región del desengaño;
vuelve en bien cierto el aparente daño,
el pasmo inútil en divina hazaña.
De aquí si que consigue el ser dichoso
el que a lo cierto no a lo incierto mira,
pues le adorna lo eterno fastuoso;
de aquí el mortal a lo sagrado aspira,
tu temor convirtiéndose en reposo;
que para el vivo el que murió respira.
