¿Qué buscas, sobremesa? La prudencia
di, ¿para qué? Para mis cuentecillos.
¿Aquésa? Esa que sabrá de sentillos.
¿Cómo? ¿qué viste en ella? Experiencia.
Mejor buscar sería la elocuencia,
que sigue, aguarda, apunta puentecillos.
Sin esas dos el que querrá decillos,
dirá su misma y propia insuficiencia.
Por eso al decidor hábil, prudente
tome de mí lo que le conviniere,
según con quien tenga su pasatiempo.
Con esto dará gusto a todo oyente,
loor a mi autor, y al que leyere
deseo de me ver en algún tiempo.
