A la hazaña de don Álvaro Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno, en la defensa de Tarifa

Las altas voces y rumor travieso
oye el Guzmán hispano desde el fuerte,
y al hijo mira amenazado a muerte,
y entre las huestes enemigas preso.
Del paternal amor el grave peso
le representa su contraria suerte;
mas el alto valor del pecho fuerte
se aventajó con espantable exceso.
Del muro arroja su desnuda espada,
y ésta sus filos en el hijo emplea;
a quien dice, con voz no alborotada:
«Manche el suelo tu sangre derramada
primero que la misma en ti se vea
con el infame deshonor manchada.»
