A Nucio Cebola
Librar del fuego la engañada mano
manda, Pórsena, y el acero agudo,
que Mucio abrasa, de temor desnudo
y del castigo de sí mesmo ufano.
La propia diestra, que el varón romano
ardiendo pudo ver, inmoble y mudo,
ésa mirar intrépida no pudo
el ofendido príncipe toscano.
En alta admiración cambia la saña,
la vida al enemigo reservando,
que para darle muerte armó la diestra.
Feliz error, que mejoró la hazaña.
Mano siempre feliz, pues pudo, errando,
ser ejemplo de tantas y maestra.
