Pudo con diestra lira y dulce canto
bajar Orfeo a la región oscura,
y del dolor que eternamente dura
la fuerza suspender y el triste llanto.
Del divino concento pudo tanto
la fuerza, y de su fe constante y pura,
que a recobrar su prenda mal segura
halló entrada en los reinos del espanto.
Venturoso amador, si no rompiera
el precepto fatal, y conservara
el bien que con tan largo afán conquista.
Mas ordena, ¡ay dolor!, la suerte fiera
que cuando con la dulce voz ganara,
vuelva a perder con la atrevida vista.
