Como el patrón que, en golfo navegando,
lleva su nao, y viendo claro el cielo,
está más lejos de tener recelo
que si estuviese en tierra paseando:
así yo por lo hondo atravesando
de mi querer, que nunca tuvo suelo,
el rato que me hallo estar sin duelo,
que voy seguro luego estoy pensando.
Pero después si el viento mueve guerra
y la braveza de la mar levanta,
acude el nunca más entrar en barca,
y el voto de ir a ver la casa santa,
y el desear ser labrador en tierra,
mucho más que en la mar un gran monarca.
