El tiempo en toda cosa puede tanto,
que aún la fama, por él, inmortal muere;
no hay fuerza tal que el tiempo, si la hiere,
no la ponga señal de algún quebranto.
No es perpetuo el placer, ni lo es el llanto.
Si esto es así, ¿por qué mi dolor quiere
que mientras más en mi se envejeciere,
esté más firme en un tenor su canto?
Quien consolar quisiese algún amigo,
después de haberle dicho otras razones,
que esperase en el tiempo le diría.
Perdióse este consuelo ya conmigo;
porque antes con el tiempo mis pasiones
se van acrecentando cada día.
