COSTUMES

COUSIN FAITHFUL — A woman about thirty-five or so. She is dressed simply but picturesquely. Gray gown with large white kerchief crossed upon her bosom and tied behind at her waist. Her hair is parted and drawn back to a knot behind. She wears gray, or black, silk mits.

MARGARET — Eighteen years of age. Her dress may be any dainty, youthful affair, only it must be sure to be in faultless taste.

COL. FALCONER — A U. S. army officer. Probably would wear civilian's clothes. He should be straight and strong and of military bearing.

MARY — A whole-hearted Irish woman. Simple calico gown and long white apron. She must not be exaggerated.

TIME IN REPRESENTATION, ONE HOUR
SCENE. — A large amply-furnished room in the Meredith homestead. At back C. a wide curtained door. At corner back R. a fine old-fashioned fireplace, in which logs are burning and brass kettle on hob is steaming. Two small doors — one at L. and one at R. Windows at back. At front L. a small table, on which a breakfast is laid. At front R. a sofa. Chairs, lamps, and books here and there. As curtain rises COUSIN FAITHFUL is discovered arranging some flowers in a bowl to grace the table . MARY the maid is standing by with arms akimbo, watching critically .
