SCENE. — The apartment of the Misses Chadwick. A tastefully furnished sitting room. Door, leading to hall, up L. Windows up R. and C. in flat. Fireplace and mantel with mirror down R. Bookshelves against flat R. and L. of window. Couch down R. near fireplace, with chair at the foot of it. Writing-table R. C., with chairs R. and L. of it. A smaller table up L., C., with a chair R. of it. Chair down L. C. Piano and stool down L. against wall. There are curtains or hangings at the door and both windows. Old portraits of two young men hang over the bookshelves. On the piano are a vase of flowers and a lot of sheet music. The table R. C, is covered with books, papers, writing-materials, etc. On the couch are pillows, two books and a handkerchief. Lamps on both tables, the one on writing table , R. C., being lighted. Time , 8:30 P. M.
