PLOT. — STEVE and MAY have been married a year, and a little one has come to them . STEVE is tortured constantly by the remembrance of his perfidy to RICHARD, who has not been heard of since the arrest, and is thought by all to be dead . RICHARD returns to claim his promised wife, and finding her married to STEVE, tells her the story of the arrest, and STEVE'S oath. SCENE. — A portion of the village church , L., seen in the distance through cut drop. The opposite side is broken up with hillocks, trees, shrubbery, vines, etc. On the stage proper are wild rose bushes ( deep red, light and white in full bloom ) and wild cherries hanging on the boughs of cherry trees. The entire stage one patch of grasses and wild flowers of all colors and variety. During the act, Autumn leaves fall from the overhanging branches, and the sun is seen peeping from behind a huge hill, casting a beautiful sunlight effect upon the scene , R. bright and sunny . L., in the shade. Path to dell , R. U. E. and L., 2 E. At rise of curtain, the village chimes are heard in the distance . TOM BLOSSOM, hair very white, and OWEN HATHERWAY, very stout, discovered lying in the shadow of a large willow tree, smoking. Village chimes are heard at rise of curtain .
